The Benefits of a ResMed AirMini™ for Travelers

Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy is the standard treatment for sleep apnea, helping you breathe better and sleep better. But the machines are bulky, and you may second guess any travel plans if you can’t take your therapy with you. But you don’t have to.
At Respacare in Bridgewater, New Jersey, Dr. Nehal Mehta and Dr. Prashant Patel don’t want you to have to give up vacations. For travelers, we recommend ResMed AirMini™, a portable CPAP machine you can easily take with you.
The benefits of ResMed AirMini for travelers include:
Small and lightweight
According to the official ResMed AirMini web page, the portable CPAP machine is the smallest on the market. It weighs less than a pound and can fit in the palm of your hand. It also comes with a travel bag, making it easy to take with you.
The one negative about the portable CPAP machine is that it doesn’t have a battery and you must plug it in for it to work. But it has an adapter that allows you to use a cigarette lighter outlet, now called the automobile auxiliary power outlet, in cars and boats.
No need for distilled water
CPAP machines deliver humid air for comfort, using distilled water to add moisture to the air you breathe in. But ResMed AirMini has a waterless humidification system, so there’s no need to carry a bottle of distilled water when you travel.
The portable CPAP machine uses ResMed HumidX™, a filtering device for your CPAP mask that captures heat and moisture when you exhale, which is then used to warm and moisten the air when you inhale.
Three therapy settings
ResMed AirMini is a versatile device designed to fit a range of needs with its three settings that include:
-
CPAP
CPAP is the most common therapeutic setting for sleep apnea. It provides continuous airflow at the same pressure setting while you sleep. We determine your CPAP setting after a sleep study, making adjustments as needed.
-
Auto-adjusting positive airway pressure (APAP)
APAP auto-adjusts the pressure of air while you sleep, matching the pressure of your natural breathing pattern. Many people find this setting more comfortable, but it takes time to set up.
-
Autoset for Her
ResMed Autoset for Her is specifically designed for females. It’s an auto-adjusting device that uses a sex-specific algorithm that’s more sensitive to breathing changes in women.
We have a CPAP clinic where we work with our patients to find the right therapy setting that benefits breathing and sleep. We like ResMed AirMini because it’s an all-in-one machine that fits a wide range of breathing needs.
App controlled
The AirMini has Bluetooth technology that connects to the AirMini app. You can use the app to adjust settings and monitor your sleep apnea and the number of events you have at night. The app can send us the data so we can remotely monitor your health and adjust your therapy plan.
If you want to learn more about ResMed AirMini or purchase the portable CPAP device, call our office today or request an appointment online. We can answer your questions, talk to you about the device, and help you get back to traveling.
